Mad River Steelhead Derby 2023 Youth Division winner Uriah Gaethle (14 years old) of Glendale / Blue Lake cleaned up at RMI Outdoors in Eureka on Sunday, March 5 where he was presented with an Addicted Fishing duffle bag full of fishing lures and a ocean rod and reel. Justin Kelly from RMI Outdoors (left) and Kenny Priest from Nor-Cal Guides & Sportsmen’s Association (right) also presented Uriah with a $100 gift card from RMI. When asked what he caught his hatchery steelhead on, Gaethle replied, “A worm from my backyard.”
Nor-Cal Guides & Sportsmen’s Association (NCGASA) annual The Mad River Steelhead Derby ran from Jan. 1 to Feb. 28 and anglers from both the adult division and youth division are required to submit a photo of their catch as well as a measurement in order to win prizes for three biggest hatchery steelhead.
